Installation of the New Calcutta Jesuit Provincial
On 14th September evening, on the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross, a large congregation of our Province men gathered in St. Xavier’s College Chapel for the installation of our new Provincial Fr. James Arjen Tete. The ceremony was meticulously prepared according to the theme ‘Called to Collaborate in Christ’s Mission’. A spiritual fragrance was eminently felt by all, the product of the efforts put in by a host of enthusiastic collaborators.
Fr. Raphael Joseph Hyde presided over the first part of the Eucharist and after the Gospel, he thanked the Province members for their cooperation and support, and warmly wished his successor every success for his future endeavors. Fr. Jerome Francis, the Socius, read the Decree of Appointment of Fr. James Arjen Tete by our General Fr. Arturo Sosa. With that Fr. Arjen took over the responsibility of the Province and Fr. Raphael gave the file having the Decree of Appointment along with that a scroll containing the pictures of our province men as a symbolic gesture.
After the Mass, a short felicitation program was organized in which Fr. Raphael and Fr. Arjen were felicitated with bouquets and shawls. We were glad to have Sr. Amia Tete, IBVM, the sister and Mrs. Mariam Kullu, the aunt of Fr. Arjen. The choir was well organized by the Juniors from Dhyan Ashram. Thanks to St. Xavier’s, Kolkata, for the hospitality and ever ready to play gracious hosts for many such Province events.
