LORD JESUS CHURCH
One of the finest and tallest Churches in the city. It has a 160 yearlong history, going back to the mid-19th century. During the English period, Rev. Dr. Alexander Duff of Scotland built this Church in 1848 and named it St. Margaret (Queen of Scotland). After the independence in 1947 the Scots returned to Scotland and the question of ownership of the Church arose. Fr. P. Turmes, SJ finally impressed on the then Jesuit Provincial Fr. A. Wautier, SJ to buy the Church on 30th November, 1968. In the year 1969 it was named as “Prabhu Jisur Girja” (Lord Jesus Church). Eventually it became a Parish on 27th July, 2005 with the installation of Fr. Timir Singha, SJ as its first Parish Priest.
